Open Question: SDHC unreadable from computer?

I just bought SDHC card for my digital slr and working fine on my camera. i can take picture and play it in the camera too but when i insert it to my computer card reader, my computer can detect the reader slot it self but can not read the card on it.when i try to open it, it said must format but when i try to format, an error come up saying this card can not be formatted.now, the only option i have to transfer the pictures is by using usb cable from my computer directly to the camera.anyone know whats the problem and how to fix this?thanks in advance!
